How To: Waxing for Off-Season Storage

How To: Waxing for Off-Season Storage

6th Oct 2025

As much as we'd love an endless winter, most of us eventually relegate our skis and boards to storage over the summer in favor of bikes, surfboards, and other toys. To keep your skis or snowboards clean, fresh, and fast, it's critical to do a little end of season wax maintenance for the longer summer months. Applying a coat of MF Performance Base Prep saturation wax for storage helps keep your bases well-saturated, prevents them from drying out, and keeps them primed for conditions-specific wax when the snow starts to fly again. Follow along with Wend founder John Dahl on waxing for off-season storage:

End of Season Storage

  1. Start by cleaning your ski or snowboard base with our MF Natural Base Cleaner & Conditioner
  2. Wipe the base clean using a microfiber cloth.
  3. Grab your iron and your MF Performance Base Prep Wax to apply a solid coat of saturation wax on your bases for the summer.
  4. Holding the iron over the base, melt the wax bar, dripping hot wax across and down the length of the base.
  5. With the iron on the base, melt and spread the MF Performance Base Prep wax evenly across the entire base.
  6. Let the wax cool and solidify into a protective and moisturizing layer that will keep your bases fresh and ready while being stored until the following season.

Start of the Season Prep

  1. Pull out your skis or snowboard, and scrape the MF Performance Base Prep wax from the surface, working down the length of the ski from tip to tail.
  2. Using a bronze brush, brush the bases from tip to tail to clear the wax from the base structure.
  3. You're now ready for a fresh new coat of wax for the season. Wax up with any of our Performance or Race waxes and enjoy opening day on the hill!
